Shopping Lists

 

The AIP diet consists mainly of meat protein and fruits and veggies!* May these lists help you navigate through the aisles as you become reacquainted with your AIP shopping experience!

 

 

Trader Joe’s

  • Organic Vegetables: romaine, spinach, arugula, spring mix, carrots, cucumber, broccoli, celery, zucchini, brussel sprouts, raw purple beets, precooked yellow beets, asparagus, yellow and purple onion, sweet potatoes/yams (not organic,) butternut/kabocha/acorn/spaghetti squash (not organic,) garlic, cilantro, chives

  • Organic Fruit: apples, peaches, pears, grapes, avocado (not organic,) lemons, limes, grapefruit, kiwi, Mexican papaya, Asian pears (not organic,) oranges, cherries

  • Meat and fish: Grass fed ground beef (fresh) grass fed lamb (fresh,) organic free-range chicken breast (fresh,) organic turkey slices, organic ground turkey (fresh,) wild salmon (frozen or fresh,) grass fed steak (frozen,) buffalo burgers (frozen)

  • Organic frozen fruit: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, acai (no sugar added)

  • Organic applesauce  

  • Green olives (canned)

  • Trader Joe’s brand canned Coconut Milk (they carry full fat, reduced fat and cream, and are also the only brand so far I’ve seen that does NOT have any fillers or gums.)

  • Unsweetened shredded coconut

  • Organic Olive Oil

  • Avocado Oil

  • Trader Joe’s brand Coconut oil

  • Balsamic vinegar (double check the ingredient lists- you don’t want caramel color!)

  • Coconut Aminos  

  • Seasonings: oregano, cumin, garlic, onion powder, onion salt, thyme, cinnamon, and ginger 


 

Sprouts

  • Organic vegetables: lettuce, kale, collard greens, carrots, broccoli, celery, cucumbers, taro root, cauliflower, radishes, green onion, leeks, bok choy, turnips, rutabaga, Brussel sprouts, parsnips, asparagus, sunchokes,  butternut/kabocha/acorn/spaghetti squash (not organic,) sweet potatoes: regular, yams, and purple

  • Organic fruit: Mexican papaya, golden kiwi, oranges, grapefruit, peaches, nectarines, plums

  • Organic frozen fruit: cherries, blueberries (so far the only options that do not have any additives)

  • Meat and fish: ground bison, venison, elk (frozen,) “Bear Mountain” bison patties (frozen,) wild Mahi Mahi (frozen,) Applegate Organic Uncured Sunday Bacon

*The EWG's 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce is a helpful tool in knowing when to buy organic fruits and veggies. Meats should be organic, hormone free, antibiotic free, nitrate free, and grass feed; fish should be wild caught.

**While some doctors may recommend adding/subtracting certain food items or groups to the AIP protocol based on patients needs, in general the AIP diet avoids the following:

gluten, dairy, grains, eggs, corn, soy, sugar, nightshades, nuts, seeds, beans + legumes
